3D Printing Service
Professional 3D Printing Service
Hawk Miniatures offers a specialist 3D printing service tailored to the needs of fine scale modellers, wargamers, and collectors. Whether you require a single master for casting, a complete set of prototype parts, or short-run printed components ready to paint, we can deliver using both resin and filament printing technologies — choosing the right process for your project and budget.
Resin 3D Printing
Our resin printing service uses MSLA (Masked Stereolithography) technology to produce parts with exceptional detail resolution, smooth surfaces, and crisp edges. Resin printing is the preferred process for fine scale figures, miniatures, and complex parts where surface quality and dimensional accuracy are critical.
Resin-printed parts are ideal for:
- Master patterns for vacuum casting — printed masters can feed directly into our resin casting service for low-volume production runs
- Highly detailed miniatures and figures — sharp facial detail, weapon edges, and fine surface texture at 28mm scale and below
- Fine scale model kit parts — thin-wall panels, riveted surfaces, and intricate structural components in 1:72 to 1:16 scale
- Terrain and scenic accessories — brickwork, stonework, and organic textures for wargaming boards and dioramas
We print using engineering-grade and hobby-specific resins that offer good strength, low shrinkage, and compatibility with standard acrylic and enamel paints after priming. Supports are removed and parts are fully cured before despatch.
Filament (FDM) 3D Printing
Our filament printing service uses Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) technology with fine-layer settings to produce robust, cost-effective parts suited to larger scale work, structural components, and display bases. FDM printing is an excellent choice where size, material strength, or economy is a priority over the finest possible surface resolution.
Filament-printed parts are ideal for:
- Large-scale display models and vehicle hulls — 1:35 scale and larger where size and strength matter more than micro-detail
- Wargaming terrain and scatter pieces — walls, ruins, crates, barrels, and objective markers printed quickly and economically
- Display bases and diorama structures — robust foundations and scenic elements that can be painted and detailed
- Functional prototypes and jigs — tooling aids, assembly jigs, and test-fit parts for kit development
We print in PLA, PETG, and ABS-like materials depending on the application. Layer heights are optimised for each project, and we can apply post-processing including sanding and priming to reduce layer visibility where required.
Which Process is Right for You?
Choosing between resin and filament printing depends on the size of your parts, the level of detail required, and how the prints will be used. As a general guide: resin printing is best for small, highly detailed parts such as figures and scale kit components; filament printing is better suited to large, structural, or terrain parts where cost and speed are priorities. We are happy to advise on the most appropriate technology for your specific project — in many cases a combination of both processes gives the best result.
From Digital File to Finished Part
We accept standard STL and OBJ files for printing. If you have your own designs ready to print, simply send us your files and we will advise on orientation, support strategy, and expected finish quality. If you need help preparing or checking your files for printability, we can assist with that too.
For those who need a design created from scratch or an existing physical master digitised, we can discuss scanning and design services as part of a wider project conversation.
Serving the Hobby Community
Our 3D printing service is built around the needs of the fine scale modelling and wargaming hobby. We understand what painters and modellers expect — parts that are clean, well-supported, accurately scaled, and ready to work with. Every print is inspected before despatch and we take care to ensure the finished product does justice to your original design.
We serve independent sculptors and designers, small kit manufacturers, game developers, historical societies, and individual hobbyists alike. Whether you need one prototype or a short run of production-ready parts, we can help.
